Police investigate fatal shooting of 28-year-old Newark man

Investigators in Essex County are asking for the public’s help in the shooting death Tuesday of a 28-year-old man in Newark.

Yasin Welch, of Newark, was shot near the intersection of Fairmount and Central Avenues, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose.

Welch was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:21 p.m., according to police.

No arrests had been made by Wednesday. Anyone with information is asked to call the prosecutor’s office at 1-877-TIPS-4EC.
