Times of Trenton week 6 picks: Notre Dame looks to stay unbeaten

Notre Dame's Cortaz Williams moves in to block a punt by Ewing's Mathew Hedrick as Notre Dame Football defeats Ewing 55-12 on 9/6/2019Larry Murphy | For The Times of Trenton

There are still three teams left unbeaten in the Times of Trenton area, after Hopewell Valley fell from the ranks last week. On the flip side, there are also three winless teams, but one (Ewing) may have its best shot to find that elusive victory this weekend?

The big game of the weekend pits Montgomery (5-1) against Watchung Hills (4-2).

FRIDAY NIGHT GAMES

(All games 7 p.m. unless noted)

Bishop Eustace (1-4) at Ewing (0-6): Tough game to call here, but Ewing has not been very good this season on offense, so have to lean towards Eustace.

Bishop Eustace 20, Ewing 6.

Gloucester City (2-4) at New Egypt (1-4): Another tough game to predict, but it looks like Gloucester has a little bit more offense to work with than the Warriors. But it could go either way.

Gloucester 20, New Egypt 12.

Montgomery (5-1) at Watchung Hills (4-2): The Cougars have been a revelation, and maybe the best story in the area. Montgomery has usually won this game even when it is down, and they are way up now.

Montgomery 34, Watchung Hills 19.

Northern Burlington (3-2) at Hightstown (1-5): While the Rams were getting crushed by Notre Dame, Northern Burlington had a bye week to stew about a last second loss to Hamilton West. Expect a response.

Northern Burlington 35, Hightstown 0.

Notre Dame (6-0) at Hopewell Valley (4-1): The Irish have not been in a contest this season. After last week’s 35-0 loss to Hamilton West, Hopewell Valley will not be able to stop Cortaz Williams, and the Irish keep rolling.

Notre Dame 35, Hopewell Valley 0.

Princeton (0-5) at West Windsor Plainsboro (2-3): Despite their record, the Pirates have been one of the better teams in the area, especially on offense. This will be no different. Shane Johnson and Makhi Thompson have a night.

WW-P (no score prediction.)

Robbinsville (6-0) at Bordentown (0-5): This is a mismatch, as Dan Surtz, and the Robbinsville defense, continue their dominant 2019 campaigns.

Robbinsville 35, Bordentown 0.

South Hunterdon (2-4) at Brearley (5-1): The Eagles have struggled on offense since the first two weeks, and it looks to continue here against a good Brearley team, which just beat Bound Brook (which beat South Hunterdon 31-14) 22-19.

Brearley 35, South Hunterdon 0.

Steinert (1-4) at Lawrence (3-2): The Cardinals have won three in a row, and come in off a dominant performance against Princeton. Steinert had a bye week to prepare.

Lawrence 14, Steinert 6.

SATURDAY GAMES

Hamilton West (4-1) at Nottingham (2-4), 12 p.m.: Hamilton West comes in off a dominant performance on both sides of the ball, while Nottingham has lost three of four. It is all about Kevin Boswell.

Hamilton West 26, Nottingham 12.

Eastern (3-2) at Trenton (3-3), 1 p.m.: Two teams heading in opposite directions clash, as Eastern, which has won three of four, head to Trenton to take on the reeling Tornadoes, who have lost three straight.

Eastern 23, Trenton 6.

Pennington (5-2) at Academy New Church (7-0), 1 p.m.: When the Chief tells you this ANC team is one of the best in the area, just like E.F. Hutton, you listen. While Pennington has been very good, this will be a massive test for the Red Raiders.

Academy New Church 34, Pennington 20.

Allentown (2-3) at Burlington Township (3-2), 1:30 p.m.: Allentown breathed some life into its season last week with a big win over Trenton. Can the Redbirds keep it going this weekend?

Burlington Township 27, Allentown 24.

Capital Prep (3-3) at Peddie (5-0), 2 p.m.: The Falcons have been the most impressive team in the area, and that should continue here against their Connecticut visitors.

Peddie 35, Capital Prep 0.

Hun (4-1) at Lawrenceville (1-5), 2 p.m.: Hun is neck and neck with Peddie for the best team in the region, and should dominate the Big Red behind the arm of Logan Clouse.

Hun 35, Lawrenceville 0.

Florence (3-3): Bye week.
