Cops arrest man moments after he allegedly waved gun around on city street corner

A Trenton police officer and two sheriff’s officers teamed up to arrest a man who witnesses say was waving a gun around near Lamberton and Cass streets in South Trenton on Tuesday morning.

Officers responding to a 10:30 a.m. call reporting a man with a gun found Manfredo Mendez-Mendez, 32, in the 800 block of Lamberton Street on a porch, police said. The officers detained him at gunpoint, and found a handgun in his waistband.

The firearm turned out to be a replica, but detectives later charged him with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and firearm charges for allegedly brandishing it during a dispute with another person. Mendez-Mendez threatened to kill the victim while pointing the weapon at the person’s head.

Trenton police Sgt. Anthony Manzo and Mercer County Sheriff’s Officers George Dzurkoc and Matt Sickler made the arrest.

Mendez-Mendez was lodged in the Mercer County Jail Wednesday awaiting court proceedings.
