Accused dealer recently charged in $100K heroin bust gunned down in Trenton

A man charged last month in an investigation that netted $100,000 of heroin was gunned down Tuesday morning in Trenton in a shooting that also left another man wounded, authorities said.

Roderick McKinney, 24, of Trenton, was shot and killed on Sanford Street, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said Tuesday.

He and another man were shot shortly before 8 a.m., Trenton police Capt. Stephen Varn said. Officers arrived at the scene after hearing reports of shots, and learned the men had already been driven to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, in Trenton.

McKinney was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other man remained hospitalized Tuesday in stable condition, Varn said.

Mercer and Montgomery County, Pennsylvania prosecutors named McKinney as one of three men charged last month in an investigation to a heroin trafficking that crossed state lines. McKinney worked with Hamilton resident Stanley Akers, 21, as “lieutenants” working for Sabree Burke, 30, of Montgomery County, authorities said.

In the investigation, authorities seized 251 heroin bricks, each stamped with “Louis Vuitton” in red lettering.

The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is investigating the shooting. Anyone with information can call 609-989-6406 or email tips to MCHTFTips@MercerCounty.org.
