A 16-year-old has been arrested for his role in a double shooting in Newark that happened outside of West Side High School last week.

Newark police said a 13-year-old and an 18-year-old were injured in the shooting August 9, but would not say whether they were students.

The 16-year-old faces aggravated assault and weapons charges. Police said he is from Connecticut and was in the area visiting a relative.

Another teenager, who is already in custody for a separate incident, is also suspected to be involved in the shooting, according to police. The defendants weren’t named because they are minors.

Newark police did not release additional details, including a possible motive for the shooting.
