South Carolina man drove drunk with loaded AK-47 on New Jersey Turnpike, police say

A man who drove drunk on the New Jersey Turnpike with a loaded AK-47 was arrested Saturday during a traffic stop, police said.

Johnathan Lorick, 33, of Lexington, South Carolina was stopped for a traffic violation in the southbound lanes near milepost 66.3 in East Windsor, according to a release from the New Jersey State Police

The troopers discovered that Lorick was drunk, arrested him for DWI and then found the rifle and ammo in his car, officials said.

Lorick was also charged with several weapons offenses, resisting arrest, aggravated assault, obstruction and disorderly conduct, authorities said.

He was taken to Mercer County Jail pending his bail detention hearing, the release stated.
