Police officer shoots, critically injures armed man in Trenton, cops say

A police officer shot and critically wounded an armed man Sunday afternoon in Trenton, authorities said

The shooting happened on the 1900 block of Calhoun street, according to Lt. Peter Szpakowski, spokesman for the Trenton Police Department.

Mercer County Prosector’s Office spokeswoman Casey DeBlasio said an “encounter” happened around 4 p.m. between a Trenton police officer and man that resulted in the shooting. Additional details were not immediately available.

The man was taken to a hospital where he is currently in critical condition, DeBlasio added. DeBlasio said a preliminary investigation indicates the suspect was armed.

The state Office of the Attorney General was notified, as required by state guidelines.
