Man shot by Trenton cops is charged with attempted murder

A man shot by Trenton police on Saturday is in stable condition and has been charged with attempted murder, authorities said.

Steven Camacho, 26, of Trenton, is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and weapons offenses, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s office said.

Camacho was shot by police after he attacked two men attempting to hold him back when police responded to a call of a street fight around 2 a.m. on Saturday, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found two men holding back Camacho. He broke free and began stabbing the other two with a “large knife,” police said.

One of the stabbing victims remains hospitalized in stable condition. The other has been released from the hospital.

The incident remains under investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the New Jersey State Police.
