Third graders at Glenn O. Swing Elementary joined forces with Covington police officers to raise money for the department’s Sleighbells and Sirens Program.

They decorated cookies, made crafts and visited with Santa.

The event raised about $550. The money will help to pay for Christmas shopping trips sponsored by the Covington Police Department.

Officers take at least two children from each Covington grade school on a shopping trip in their cruiser and then on to a pizza party at the Center for Great Neighborhoods.

It’s the fourth year students at Glenn O. Swing have participated in the service learning project they call “Crafts with Cops.”
