Belleville crash during police pursuit injures Newark teen
A 14-year-old Newark girl on a bicycle suffered minor injuries Sunday in Belleville after she was struck by a man who was eluding police, authorities said.
Belleville Police attempted to stop Christopher Roman, 27, of Newark, at Mill and Bridge streets just before 8 p.m., said Detective Lt. John McAloon. He was driving a 2019 Jeep Cherokee when officers approached him.
Roman drove off when officers approached him, McAloon said. He then blew past a traffic light before hitting the front wheel of the girl's bicycle at Summer and Montclair avenues. She had minor scrapes on her knee.
Eventually Roman stopped the car and fled the scene, McAloon said.
