Three injured, including 10-year-old girl, in Newark shooting

Multiple shots were fired on 6th Avenue in Newark on Sunday, injuring two men and a 10-year-old girl, authorities said.

At about 3:30 p.m., the shooter fired off a reported 28 rounds on the 200 block of 6th Avenue, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said.

Two men were shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and both are in stable condition, Ambrose said. The 10-year-old was treated for minor injuries after she was struck by an unidentified ricocheting object. Ambrose could not confirm whether the object was a bullet or provide details on the exact nature of her injuries.

Police were alerted to the shooting by Shot Spotter, a program that uses acoustic sensors to detect when shots are fired and determine where the gunman is.

Police could not provide details on who the gunman is or what led to the shooting.
