“Fiver Fest is absolutely perfect for Alnwick, with February being probably one of the toughest months of the year,” said Lisa Aynsley, Chamber of Trade chairman.

“This February in particular is proving tough,” she added. “I’m sure no-one has missed the national publicity around the tough trading climate currently on the high street.

“When Jasmine forwarded me the details on Fiver Fest I thought it was a superb initiative to shine a light on the truly awesome independent businesses we have here in Alnwick, and offer consumers a real incentive to visit the shops and businesses.”

The campaign is running with a fortnight of great offers, deals and attractions from Saturday, February 15 to Saturday, February 29.

Businesses taking part put on special £5 offers over the two weeks, to show the diversity and value of what they sell, and to say thank you to the communities that support them.

The initiative grew out of the Totally Locally £5 message which showed the huge impact of people spending just £5 per week in their local independent shops can have on our high streets.
