In the Northern Alliance, Alnwick Town, Rothbury, Wallington, Wooler and North Sunderland all saw their games called off because of rain and waterlogged pitches.

Rothbury had been due to travel to Felling in Division 2, but the game was postponed on Saturday morning. Rothbury had offered to switch the game to Armstrong Park as their pitch was playable, but their opponents refused.

In the Combination League, Alnwick Town Development and Alnwick U23s also saw their respective fixtures postponed.

The wet weather has meant no play for a number of clubs for several weeks now, with all council-run pitches on Tyneside deemed unplayable for the past four weekends. This will ultimately lead to a backlog of fixtures later in the season.

Red Row and Lowick did manage to beat the elements, however.

Red Row went into their top of the table game against Hebburn U23’s sitting in pole position in Division 1, but they were on the wrong end of a 5-0 defeat which enabled their opponents to go level with them on 22 points.

Against the Development League leaders,Ponteland United Reserves, Lowick also found little joy, going down to a 7-0 defeat, their ninth successive loss in all competitions.

This weekend teams will keeping their fingers crossed for drier weather in the hope they can get back playing.

Alnwick Town, who are currently 12th in the Premier table on seven points, are due to take on high-flying Winlaton Vulcans, who are second behind leaders Newcastle Blue Star.

Wallington, who are 10th with 12 points, travel to take on Ponteland United Reserves in the League Cup.
