Presenter Bart Rippon will explore the history of VE Day through archive recordings of speeches, music and first-hand accounts of the original VE Day.

The programme, on Saturday, May 9 from 7pm to 10pm, will also explore how the event was recorded in films, newspapers and books at the time.

Bart said: “VE Day means so much to so many people and I’ve really enjoyed exploring their memories and experiences. It’s been a challenge doing this from home, but I’m very pleased with the end result.”

The Alnwick-based community station is financed through public donations and grants.

“During these difficult times, it is more important than ever for Lionheart Radio to keep broadcasting,” said station organiser Anne Howie. “I’m very pleased that we’re able to commemorate VE Day when so many community events have had to be cancelled.”
