A BUSY mum who has dedicated her life to saving cats and kittens is appealing for help on Anglesey.

Vanessa Williams, who set up the Anglesey and District Feline Support and Rescue, the only cat rescue on the island, spends 24 hours a day caring for animals at her Morawelon home in Holyhead.

Many of the cats have been abandoned, some are lost, others are feral, whilst some have been beloved pets, but their owners can no longer care for them.

Vanessa said: "As long as I can remember I’ve always been rescuing animals from spiders to birds. I worked voluntary for the RSPCA from the age of 15.

"In 2017, a friend came across five kittens at Soldiers Point in Holyhead. I knew I had to do something. There isn't much help out there, especially for feral cats, and there is also the problem of abandoned cats not neutered or spayed, which causes a rolling effect on the cat population." It's a real problem on Anglesey."

Since setting up the rescue, helped by her three sons, her partner Tony, his two daughters, friends and volunteers, Vanessa has rehomed over 150 cats/kittens.

"Since the first rescue, in 2017, I never in a million years thought this rescue was so needed on Anglesey, but it has been proved by the amount of cat/kittens that have come into rescue. It's only going to get bigger."

Vanessa is now appealing for people to offer permanent homes, or to be foster carers. She needs donations, cat food and litter and is also on the look out for bigger premises.
