A BROTHER and sister from Anglesey are set to take on a charity skydive in memory of their father next month.

On June 8, Darren Pritchard, 27, and his sister Amanda, 30, from Pentraeth will take to the skies over Lancaster to raise money for St David's Hospice.

The 15,000ft skydive will also be in memory of their father Ronald Pritchard (Ron) who recently died at St David’s Hospice after being diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma in July 2018.

Amanda said she "couldn’t fault" the care her father received at the Llandudno Hospice.

“My Dad was very apprehensive at first, but right from the first day at the hospice, he felt relaxed there," she said.

"He asked immediately if he could stay. He knew deep down, he needed extra care and that we could no longer provide it. "He received care for seven weeks, initially respite and then for end of life care.

"Everything was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. They cared for us as a family and the staff always kept us informed.

“Dad hadn’t walked since the diagnosis in July, he was bedridden. But with the help of the Hospice Physiotherapist and the motorised movement therapy, he was able to move his legs. He was so excited to be able to see movement."

North Wales Chronicle:

Mr Pritchard had worked as an Electrical Warehouse man at T.N Robinson, Gaerwen and in his free time loved all things to do with motorbikes and music. He had also been learning to play the bass guitar.

As an Inpatient at St David’s Hospice, he was able to continue his love of music, attending music therapy sessions along with his friends and family, including youngest son Wayne, 15, who is a keen guitar player.

Darren said: "Every Friday, friends and family came to the Hospice for a music therapy session. We are a very musical family and it just felt like jamming at home.

"St David's Hospice is a charity run organisation, funded solely on fundraising and donation efforts. For this reason, we would like to both honour our Dad's memory and raise awareness for the services provided while Dad was cared for at the hospice.

“The idea of a 10,000ft does make me very nervous but dad is our inspiration for this tandem jump as he took part in one about 20 years ago. When we told him we were going to do it, he was really chuffed.”

Darren and Amanda hope to raise £1000 and are also organising a rock concert. To donate: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/rememberingron1
