"DISTRESSING" footage of a dog attacking a swan has been released.

An appeal has been launched to find the dog owner, labelled as "disgraceful" by North Wales Police's Rural Crime team.

The swan unbelievably survived the attack, which happened at Aberogwen near Bangor.

RSPCA officers are trying to retrieve the animal for vital treatment.

The Rural Crime Team tweeted: "We have come into possession of disturbing footage of a dog attacking a swan in Tal Y Bont near Bangor.

"We have decided to post this footage and recommend viewer discretion.

"We need to catch this reckless dog owner who could allow their 'pet' to do this.

"We need the public’s help to find this disgraceful dog owner who allowed their dog to attack a swan.

"How any dog owner can feel that allowing their pet to rip another animal apart is normal is truly abhorrent and they should never be allowed to own a dog again and face the stiffest sentence the law allows.

"We are shocked and need the public's help to find this dog owner."

Anyone with information is asked to telephone 101.
