DOLGELLAU boosted their WRU National League Division One North title hopes with a resounding 55-3 home bonus point win over Bangor.

The promotion fancies made it eight wins from nine league games this season after a polished display against their struggling opponents, and they are now 17 points behind leaders COBRA with four games in hand.

The home side made the best of the conditions early on and went ahead on 15 minutes when skipper Rhys Roberts powered over from close range, and this was swiftly followed by another try that came courtesy of centre Carwyn Pugh. Henri Roberts despatched both conversion attempts.

This same pattern of play continued throughout the first period, with Marius Jones and winger James Owen both crossing the white wash during a period of considerable pressure. Roberts converted both attempts to give them a commanding 28-point lead at the break.

After the interval saw the home side continue to benefit from some fine attacking play, with Jake Hinge, Jones, Dylan Llywelyn and James Owen all scoring tries in the second half, with the visitors rewarded for their persistence with a consolation score from Jonny Pymm.

Bethesda claimed a notable Division One North success thanks to a sterling 34-7 victory over Caernarfon, but there was no such luck for Llangefni as they suffered a 24-11 loss at in-form Bala.

Menai Bridge now sit third from bottom in the Division Three North standings after falling to a 34-19 loss at Flint, with Llangefni Seconds involved in a war of attrition during their narrow 8-5 defeat at the hands of Denbigh Seconds.
