A BANGOR born footballer has signed a contract extension with Barclays Premier League side Everton.

Nathan Broadhead, a Wales U21 international, penned a new two-year deal with Everton before being sent to Burton Albion on a season-long loan.

The midfielder is the Toffees’ current U23 Player of the Year and played a leading role in the side clinching the Premier League 2 title last term.

He will now join up with Nigel Clough’s side for the entirety of the campaign to get further experience in a senior environment, and the former Derby County boss is thrilled to have acquired the services of Broadhead

He said: "Nathan was the one we had in mind as soon as Marcus Harness left.

"We have had to wait, but the most important thing is that we have got him. He has been away with Everton's first team pre-season, which is a very good sign.

"He can also play in a wide position and in training he looked very comfortable. It's an exciting signing for us."

The 21-year-old has made one substitute appearance for Everton's first team in a Europa League tie away at Apollon Limassol in December 2017.

He joined the Academy system at Goodison Park as a teenager and featured in every single league game for the U23s, only failing to complete a full match on three occasions.

Broadhead has been part of the first-team set-up this summer and impressed Marco Silva with his performances in Kenya, Switzerland and Germany.
