Storm Diana arrived overnight and has brought strong winds and heavy rain to parts of Nottinghamshire.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind which began at 3am today, Thursday, and is in place until 2pm today.

The warning means that you should expect some delays to road, rail and air transport, with some journeys taking longer.

There may also be some short term loss of power.

The Met Office said: "A spell of wet and windy weather is expected, with a small chance of very strong and disruptive winds."

Across the county, gusts could reach up to 50mph with parts of the UK experiencing winds of up to 75mph.

According to the Met Office, the wind in Nottingham hit gusts of 47mph at 1pm today, and 44mph at noon.

Power restored in Stanton-on-the -Wolds

It looks like power has now been restored in this village.

In general terms of the weather today, Western Power Distribution said: “Activity on our network has been busier than usual due to the weather conditions, most parts affected are exposed and coastal areas in the South West.”

Power workers trying to fix overhead cables

An update on the power cut in Stanton-on-the-Wolds, where 68 properties are without power. Some branches have come down on the overhead cables just off Melton Road, and workers are currently at the scene trying to sort the problem.

On nearby resident said the power had gone off at around 10.30am. She said: “I was sitting at my computer when there was a loud bang and everything went off. Then the power tried to come on again, but there was another loud bang. It was quite frightening.”

Weather warning extended

The Met Office has now extended the yellow weather warning for wind to 5pm today. It had originally ended at 2pm.

Nearly 70 properties are without power in Stanton-on-the-Wolds

Not clear yet if this is wind-related, but there are currently 68 properties without power in Stanton-on-the-Wolds, near Keyworth.

The postcodes affected are NG12 5BQ, NG12 5PH, NG12 5PJ, and NG12 5SE.

This incident was reported at 11.02am and Western Power Distribution estimates it will be sorted by 12.30pm.

A WPD spokesman said an overhead line was down, but couldn’t confirm if it was weather-related.

But they are due to reach up to 49mph between now and 2pm.
