A main road which was closed last night following a "serious accident" has been re-opened.

The incident happened on the A52 near Bottesford at 7.50pm on December 10 and the road was shut between the A46 Saxondale Island, near Bingham, and the A1 for Barrowby.

The closure in total was along a 13-mile stretch of the A52.

Police have not issued any further details about the why the road was shut other than it was due to a "serious road collision", reports Leicestershire Live .

The road was eventually re-opened just after 2am.

Leicestershire Police tweeted: "All roads have now been re-opened. Thank you for your co-operation."
