The EFL are looking to stage the Championship play-off final in early August, according to a report by BBC Sport, with Leagues One and Two to stage their promotion finals in the days prior.

Championship clubs, including Nottingham Forest, are now back in training as they prepare for their restart with a June 20 date mooted.

Players are now able to train in small groups at training grounds but a return to contact sessions could soon be on the cards.

And with contracts set to expire on June 30, it is vital that if the season is to be completed it must begin before the end of the month.

A June 20 restarts would allow five weeks for clubs to play their final nine fixtures before the play-off semi-finals get underway almost instantly at the end of July.

That would see the final take place behind closed doors at Wembley during August's first weekend.

That is understood to be the latest that the EFL anticipate that Championship and wealthy League One clubs will be able to extend their player contracts too on short notice before a £500,000 restart bill lands on their desks.

Nearly 50 per cent of lower league players below the Championship will see their contracts expire on June 30 and money is already running out for smaller clubs to extend them.

That could see a contract catastrophe with clubs being left to finish their seasons with diminished squats if clubs vote to play on.

Forest will themselves enter the virtual ballot box on June 8 to vote on vital EFL regulation changes that could pave the way for the likes of Coventry City and Rotherham United to be promoted to the Championship.
