It is pretty clear where fans think Nottingham Forest need to strengthen in January.

The Reds made 12 signings during the summer, with that recruitment now paying dividends on the pitch.

Under head coach Sabri Lamouchi, Forest sit joint-top of the Championship table as they prepare for a return to action following the international break.

And as the club look to mount a promotion push this season, plenty of supporters are keen to see the Reds bolster their attack when the transfer window re-opens.

Lewis Grabban is Lamouchi’s main front man and has plundered five goals in 11 appearances so far this term.

Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Rafa Mir has been back-up to Grabban, but has recently been out of action with injury and has yet to find the back of the net in the Garibaldi.

In a recent NottinghamshireLive Forest fans’ survey, we asked supporters if they could sign one player in January, who would it be?

The majority said they would like to see another forward brought in - and one name cropped up more than any other.

Dwight Gayle.

After being on loan at West Bromwich Albion last term, the 28-year-old has yet to feature for Newcastle United this time around, having been sidelined with injury.

But Reds supporters would be keen to see him head to the City Ground for the second half of the campaign.

In response to the question in our survey, Richard F, from Nottingham, said: “Dwight Gayle - need a bit of extra ooomph up front to support Grabban.”

Paul, from Sheffield, added: “Dwight Gayle. There is a concern that we only have one good striker. Having two excellent strikers would make us formidable!”

Stu Burgin, from Jacksdale, is also a fan of the diminutive forward. He said: “Dwight Gayle. Need more goals to go up.”

Signing another striker would be a popular choice.

Garry Gibbard, from Rugby, added: “Need another striker proven at this level.”

And Nik Berry, from Haverfordwest, said: “Striker. Not enough cover in that position.”

Sophie, from Heanor, suggested former target Jack Colback - who impressed in two separate loan spells, saying: “He was good in midfield and strong for the team.”

Henrik, from Denmark, suggested Bobby Reid and Simon, from Melton Mowbray, said he would like to see former Red Britt Assombalonga return.

Brentford youngster Ollie Watkins was also a popular choice.
