After closing during the winter, Trentham Monkey Forest is reopening this weekend - just in time for half term.

Only an hour away from Nottingham - down the A50 into Staffordshire - the popular attraction is the only place in the country where you can walk around freely with monkeys.

And there are lots of them.

The 60-acre forest is home to 140 monkeys - and you can get incredibly close to them as you wander around the beauty spot, reports Liverpool Echo.

Monkey Forest  director, Matt Lovatt said:  "As the winter is coming to a close, we can’t wait to for the season to begin and welcome lots of new customers during half term. It’s always a really exciting time for all the team.

"It’s the visitors first chance to catch a glimpse of the monkeys and see how our little ones have grown. We also have face painting during weekends in half term."

The unique experience is complete with hourly feeding talks so you can learn more about the monkey's while watching them in their natural habitat.

There is also guides situated throughout the forest to help answer any questions you may have.

Alongside the park there’s also a video room, two play areas to help keep your little monkeys entertained plus café, picnic area and shop.

For the first time ever, guests can also save money by buying tickets for the forest online in advance.

Matt said: "We’ve also added a discount to our online tickets which we’re sure our customers will like.

"As well as online tickets we’ve also launched annual memberships so our customers can enjoy visiting the monkeys as often as they like whilst we are open."

The forest hopes their new membership tickets will help encourage locals to visit multiple times throughout the year.

It is open from February 16 to February 24, as well as weekends in March, before opening daily from March 30.
