Former Nottingham swanky bar the Bear and Lace is getting a major overhaul ready to open with a brand new identity.

The city centre premises, which closed without warning in November 2017, will become the Yacht Club with a menu that promises to be a seafood lovers' paradise.

Around half the menu will be devoted to fish, with salmon caviar, oysters, sea bass, mussels, prawns and monkfish as the stars of the show.

But it's not just for pescatarians as tenderloin beef, corn-fed chicken and duck breast will be a feature.

The revamp is currently underway at the site in Maid Marian Way - just a few doors down from the owner's award-winning restaurant - the Calcutta Club.

John Dhaliwal is at the helm of this new family-run venture, where his son Suraj and daughter Andeep Mann will be managing front of house.

Mr Dhaliwal has been in the restaurant business for 40 years, serving mostly Asian and Indian cuisine but the Yacht Club will have a much wider appeal.

He said: "There will be a good variety. We are not holding ourselves down to any particular cuisine so there will probably be Asian and South American flavours in there.

"There is no rule of thumb. It doesn't have to be Indian food with Indian beer. We are trying to put together some really bespoke products which you probably won't see under any other roof in Nottingham.

"We are moving away from all the big brand names and trying to get some new unique products. When they go out people are looking for good food, a good ambiance and some nice refreshing drinks."

In recent years the premises were Chambers, a bar with karaoke, before turning into upmarket cocktail bar, the Bear and Lace in 2015, a venue with vintage-style surroundings where bowler hats doubled up as lamp shades and bears played a role in the decor.

As the revamp continues behind the whitewashed windows, Mr Dhaliwal is keeping tight-lipped about the new look, although he added: "There will be nothing nautical about the decor whatsoever.

"The idea of the Yacht Club is we are not anchored anywhere from a menu persepctive. We can dock at any coast or bay and take on that flavour."

A firm date has not been decided but the Yacht Club is scheduled to open in a few weeks time. A head chef from a five star hotel in Dubai and a patisserie chef have been recruited.

Full and part-time front of house jobs are available. To apply send CVs and availability to info@the-yacht-club.co.uk
