FAYETTEVILLE -- A Springdale man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for having a gun.

Jackson Abed Rodriguez-Robles, 36, was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release and was ordered to pay $2,500 in fines and special assessments for one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Rodriguez-Robles was convicted of a felony in 2001 in Puerto Rico, according to court records. Police responded to a crime in progress in February at Rodriguez-Robles' apartment in Springdale. He ran out the back of the apartment but police caught him. Rodriguez-Robles told police he owned a gun found in the apartment.

Rodriguez-Robles was indicted by a federal grand jury in March. He entered a guilty plea in June.

The case was investigated by the Springdale Police Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

U.S. District Judge Timothy L. Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Carter prosecuted the case.
