SEE IT: Bumbling bandit caught on video trying — and failing — to rob store

Someone skipped a few classes in banditry school.

A bumbling crook was caught on surveillance video not only botching a robbery at a Brooklyn store, but also revealing his identity when his makeshift mask slipped off his face, officials said Saturday.

The suspect barreled into a Flatbush Ave. store near Maple St. in Prospect Lefferts Gardens at about 6:45 a.m. July 14 wearing a tan-colored T-shirt tied around the lower half of his face, the video shows.

But that didn’t last long.

As he wielded a small knife and began struggling with a 27-year-old store clerk, the shirt slipped, the video shows.

He took a minute in the middle of the heist to grab the shirt, turn around, and try to re-tie it, but in the end he gave up and held it over his face with one hand while trying to pry open the register with the other.

When he couldn’t open the register, he grabbed $40 from the counter and ran off, officials said.

Cops released the surveillance video of the crook in the hope that someone recognizes him. He is described as black with salt and pepper close-cropped hair, last seen wearing black pants and a grey Villanova Wildcats T-shirt.

Anyone with information regarding his identity and whereabouts is urged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
