SEE IT: Surveillance video shows Bronx dad celebrating his birthday fatally shot by stranger after club brawl

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

A Bronx dad out celebrating his birthday was shot dead when his buddy bumped into someone at a Washington Heights night spot, sparking a deadly brawl, cops and the man’s devastated family said Monday.

Two other people were hurt in the shooting that cost Edy Corniel his life at about 4:50 a.m. Monday, cops said.

Corniel had gone out Sunday for a night on the town to celebrate his 28th birthday with friends, older brother, Rich Corniel, told the Daily News.

They were wrapping their revelry with a meal at Floridita, an all-night bar and restaurant on 10th Ave. near 206th St., when one of his friends accidentally knocked into another clubgoer, Corniel, 35, said.

“His friend apologized but the dude tried to punch him,” the older brother said.

As the man, a complete stranger, started throwing fists, one of his friends turned to a woman and grabbed a gun from her, according to Corniel, who wasn’t at the celebration but said he saw surveillance footage of the shooting afterwards.

“I guess it was his girlfriend. He opened fire and my brother was hit in the chest,” the sibling said.

“It was all in the video,” he added.

A third victim, a 29-year-old man, showed up at Harlem Hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg. He told cops he was wounded at the same location as the other victims.

Rich Corniel said his brother, who worked in construction, left behind a wife and a 3-year-old son.

“My brother was kind, protective, passionate and funny,” he said. “We’re all trying to cope. This shouldn’t happen to anybody.”
