Police have released surveillance video of the four masked men who broke into a Bronx billionaire’s home and made off with $140,000 worth of luggage and jewelry.
The burglars ransacked shopping mall magnate Don Ghermezian’s $3.6 million Riverdale mansion about 5:15 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Video released by police Monday night showed the crooks sneaking alongside the house, with one carrying a backpack.
Ghermezian learned of the break-in from a security notification system while he was out of town, cops said. The mall maestro told the Daily News that nobody was harmed during the burglary.
Ghermezian is president of Triple 5, a Canadian company controlled by his family that operates the American Dream shopping and entertainment complex in the New Jersey Meadowlands. Triple 5 also operates the Mall of America in Minnesota and the West Edmonton Mall, which bills itself as the world’s largest shopping mall.
Ghermezian’s three-story Riverdale home is part of Villanova Heights, an affluent enclave that has its own private security team. Residents said the community has been the target of robberies in the past.
“It’s very sad. We love Riverdale. I don’t know how the police can make it safe. People don’t want to live in cages,” a neighbor said.
Anyone who recognizes the crooks is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
