Authorities in South Carolina have planned a sweeping search on Monday surrounding a swath of land in Seneca where dog dug up the remains of a woman earlier this week.

Police responded to a residence in Oconee County last Monday after receiving a call from the homeowner about a bone her dog discovered buried close to a nearby creek, according to Fox Carolina.

Coroner Carl Addis confirmed Tuesday a pelvic and right femur bone were recovered from the area. He said they belonged to a woman between the ages of 25 and 45 years old, who stood between 5-foot-1 and 5-foot-7.

Addis added it was likely the woman died within the last year.

Seneca Police Chief John Covington said the discovery prompted a “large-scale search of the area with the assistance of cadaver dogs.” An expanded search on Wednesday turned up additional skeletal remains, all of which will be tested against DNA of known missing persons — including two women recently reported missing from Oconee County.

Crews returned to search site on Thursday, but packed up around 1 p.m. with nothing new to report.

Covington said the search will continue Monday, when they will perform a large-scale grid search as part of their effort to comb through the area surrounding where the bones were uncovered.
