Gandhinagar blocks entry exit for horses, donkeys

We can move out of Gandhinagar with horses with the health report confirming glanders negative. He added that the ban would be in place for three months during which breeders of horses and donkeys will not be able to move in and out of Gandhinagar taluka. The notification was issued by the state government on Tuesday.The infections Glanders disease was detected in a mule that had been brought from Uttar Pradesh to Por village of Gandhinagar. Following its death a few days ago, the health authorities decided to restrict movement of possibly infected animals and humans.However, breeders say there is no danger to horses.

The government has also warned of legal action against them if they fail to obey the ban, which will be in place at least for next three months. The notification was issued by the state government on Tuesday.The infections Glanders disease was detected in a mule that had been brought from Uttar Pradesh to Por village of Gandhinagar. Following its death a few days ago, the health authorities decided to restrict movement of possibly infected animals and humans.However, breeders say there is no danger to horses. In fact, they plan to participate in the four horse shows in the state next month.Talking to Mirror, Dr R V Prajapati, assistant director (Animal health) ofpanchayat, said, "Glanders disease was noticed in a mule brought to Por from Uttar Pradesh. It had been brought to a brick kiln in the village. It was buried as per the standard procedure." He added that the ban would be in place for three months during which breeders of horses and donkeys will not be able to move in and out of Gandhinagar taluka. "This is just to avoid infections. After three months, the ban will be reviewed. However, if anyone is found violating the ban, legal action will be taken and he or she will be quarantined," he said.Commenting on the ban, Sanjay Barot, owner of a stable in Gandhinagar, said, "We have noticed that this disease had been present in local breeds like Marwadi, Sidhi and Kathiyawadi for last many years. We can move out of Gandhinagar with horses with the health report confirming glanders negative. Government provides facility for that."Horse breederPatel said, "There are four horse shows in Jasdan, Jasra,and Amreli in March which will not face any hurdle as there is no danger to horses from this disease. There is a set procedure for blood sampling for the disease which will be followed."
