DUNKIRK Party politics strikes sour note

At the last Dunkirk Common Council meeting, at-large candidate Paul VanDenVouver made an interesting remark regarding recent Music on the Pier or Dunkirk Festivals events. While speaking during the public portion of the meeting, he noted unnecessary campaigning for the current city Mayor Wilfred Rosas at the events.

He is correct. That is the wrong forum for political statements.

But this year was not the first time. In the past, Music on the Pier highlighted other Democratic candidates for office while not giving the same time for their opponents.

It’s a poor — and unfair — practice. We hope, moving forward, it is something that does not happen again. Keep the politics at the fundraisers and party headquarters.

City events, that benefit the full community, are the wrong venue.
