OBSERVER Staff Report

The Fredonia Hillbillies sent their seniors out on top on Friday night, with a 1-0 victory over the rival Dunkirk Marauders in a CCAA West boys soccer game at SUNY Fredonia on Senior Night.

After the first half of the opening frame was scoreless, Fredonia junior Adam Sellari drilled a shot from far outside the box over Dunkirk goalkeeper Ashton Witkowski and into the back of the net. That ended up as the game’s only goal, as Witkowski had double-digit saves to keep Fredonia at bay the rest of the way. Fredonia senior goalkeeper Tyler Rosen made three saves in the rivalry shutout in his final regular season home game.

“It was a well-played game — a typical Dunkirk-Fredonia game,” said Fredonia coach Jim Rush. “We had a number of opportunities and we were able to get one by. … It was a great team win.”

Fredonia improves to 4-4-2 overall and 4-2-2 in league play. The Hillbillies play at Olean on Wednesday.

Dunkirk falls to 3-9-0 overall and 1-6-0 in league play. The Marauders play at home on Monday night against Olean at 7 p.m.
