Highlights and top scorers from the Orange County basketball games on Saturday, Dec. 15.

BOYS BASKETBALL

No. 20 Mission Viejo beat South Coast League rival and 11th-ranked Trabuco Hills 60-55 in overtime Saturday night to win the CVCS Eagle Classic at Capistrano Valley Christian. Jake Conerty led the Diablos (10-2) with 19 points and was named Tournament MVP.  Griff Higgins added 14 points and Rey Cabiling had 10. Zack Gald was named to all-tournament team.

Kelvin Cabrera led Trabuco Hills (7-3) with 21 points. Daniel Prendergast hit a 3-point basket in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime. He and Cabrera made the all-tournament team. The Mustangs outscored the Diablos 34-22 in the second half, but Mission Viejo won the overtime 7-2.

Elijah Vaielua blocked a shot as time ran out as No. 6 Cypress hung on for a 54-53 victory over St. Francis for the championship of the Buc Pride Classic at Bellflower. Jared Brown scored 19 points and was named Tournament MVP. Anthony Tello added 14 points and joined Vaielua on the all-tournament team.

No. 1 Mater Dei beat Notre Dame/Riverside 64-48 to win the Charlie Wilkins Memorial Tournament at Westminster. Harry Hornery led the Monarchs (10-1) with 20 points and was named Tournament MVP. Wilhelm Breidenbach had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Ryan Evans scored 14 points.

In another meeting of league rivals for a tournament championship, the Empire League’s Valencia edged Pacifica 53-49 for the Loara title.

Festus Ndumanya had 24 points and 20 rebounds as No. 22 Capistrano Valley Christian took third in its own Eagle Classic with a 63-45 win over San Juan Hills. The Eagles (7-3) broke open a close game with a 39-19 second-half surge. Daniel Powers and Riely Petronis added 11 points each.

 

GIRLS

No. 2 Rosary captured the Santa Ana Elks Classic at Segerstrom with a 66-41 rout of St. Paul. Soleil Montrose had 19 points, Asia Avinger 13 and Tiarah Galvan 11. Avinger was MVP, while Montrose and Kaylee Byon made the all-tournament team.

Sydney Gandy scored 28 points and made the all-tournament team in leading No. 6 Los Alamitos to a 64-44 win over Los Osos in the Spartan Classic at Orangewood Academy. Latavia Miller added 17 points.
