From mentions of Felicity Huffman’s college admission scandal to repeated jabs at the lack of diversity at this year’s 77th Golden Globe Awards, host Ricky Gervais was not afraid to share some scathing comments during his opening monologue.
With a few censored words not safe for TV and a glass of beer at hand, Gervais did not hold back including bringing up Jeffrey Epstein, referring to “The Irishman” actor Joe Pesci as Baby Yoda and even managed to work in a Greta Thunberg mention in his speech.
Twitter had mixed reactions to his opening: some loved it while others didn’t care for the brutal jokes.

If you’re uncomfortable with @rickygervais #goldenglobes2020 speech, it’s probably because you realise everything he’s saying is the hard truth #topcomedy #noprisoners

the best thing I could be watching right now is Ricky Gervais on mute with no tie (edgy) and an entirely full pint of beer baking under the house lights (cool)
