Suspect charged with shooting Athens man

Athens-Clarke police have charged a Winterville man in a shooting that occurred last week along Spring Valley Road.

Police announced Wednesday the arrest of 31-year-old Adam J. Conerly, who was charged with aggravated assault and two counts of damage to property.

The shooting occurred during an undisclosed time on Sept. 5, when the victim reported multiple gun shots were fired into his mobile home. One round struck the resident in the arm, police said.

Police would not say if the suspect is known to the victim or if the shooting was a random crime.

Police would also not disclose if other people were in harm’s way in the home.

Witnesses helped police detectives identify Conerly as the shooter. He was arrested at his home on Bristlecone Court near Winterville, police said.
