State and local law enforcement officers are trying to track down a black bear after being spotted in a Gresham neighborhood Thursday afternoon.

Officers with the Gresham Police department initially responded to the incident before handing it off to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office when the bear migrated outside of city limits. Officers with the Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife are also in the area.

According to Chris Liedle with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, it isn’t clear where the bear went. Officers with the county and Gresham police have since been cleared for other priority calls.

The bear was last seen near NE 239th Place and NE Glisan Street around 5 p.m.

Officials ask that people who spot the bear report it and stay away at a safe distance.
