Orkney pauses to remember

This year’s Remembrance Sunday marks the centenary of the armistice that brought to an end the hostilities of the Great War.

One-hundred years ago, the news was met in Orkney — like numerous areas across the UK — with much fanfare, even while the full-scale of devastation and lives lost began to sink in.

A special programme of events are taking place here in Orkney which will mark the anniversary, details of which were published in full in The Orcadian this week.

Coverage will appear over on The Orcadian Facebook page, and in a special supplement included in the paper, out next Thursday.

While The Orcadian will be attending many events, organisers of others are kindly asked to please send any pictures and details to newsroom@orcadian.co.uk by 4pm on Monday at the very latest, in the hope that they can also be included in the supplement.
