After securing a four-man 2019 recruiting class, the Oregon State Beavers men’s basketball program still had a wiggle room to add a big-bodied post player in the fold.

Wayne Tinkle and his coaching staff found their man Friday night, as 247Sports three-star center Shengzhe Li announced his commitment to Oregon State:

The 6-foot-11, 250-pound center, out of Santa Margarita Catholic High School (Rancho Santa Margarita, California), originally signed with BYU, but was granted his release in mid-April and reopened his recruitment.

Li, who hails from Shanghai, China, moved to Santa Margarita at the start of his junior year of high school and averaged 6.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.4 blocks per game while shooting 54 percent for the field and 67 percent from the free-throw line.

He joins an Oregon State recruiting class that already consists of a trio of three-star guards - Jarod Lucas, Gianni Hunt and Julien Franklin - as well as unrated junior college forward Sean Miller-Moore.

Although Li represents the Beavers’ lone big man addition in the 2019 class, BYU transfer Payton Dastrup will be cleared to play for Tinkle after being forced to sit out last season.
