Portland metro Tuesday traffic: Bridge work closes lanes on I-84 near Troutdale

Use caution in the work area on I-84 near Troutdale.

Work continues on the project to replace the Interstate 84 bridges over Graham Road in Troutdale. Drivers will see delays due to single lane closures, slowdowns and traffic control devices in the area as crews work to build a temporary bridge.

Lane closures are likely 8 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays (westbound) and 7 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays (eastbound). Also, lane and ramp closures are likely 10 p.m.-5:30 a.m. on weeknights and 10 p.m.-8 a.m. on weekends.

Brief full closures of I-84 may be needed during construction of the temporary detour bridge. Speed limits in the work zone are reduced to 50 mph during construction. Use extreme caution when traveling in the area and expect delays. For more details visit: www.i-84troutdale.org

SUNSET HIGHWAY 7:35 a.m.: Crash blocking the left and center lanes of U.S. 26 westbound near the zoo exit.

Update 8 a.m.: Moved to the right merge lane and shoulder.

MULTNOMAH VILLAGE 7:05 a.m.: Fatal hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian at Southwest 45th Avenue near Carson Street.

Update 7:12 a.m.: Southwest 45th Avenue from Garden Home to Carson Street is closed for this crash investigation and is expected to remain so for 4-6 hours.

Work on a project to repair and replace a number of freeway joints on the elevated sections of Interstate 405 began on Monday. The Oregon Department of Transportation will have crews working on either side of the Fremont Bridge and on the ramp from I-405 to westbound U.S. 26.

Repairs include replacement of the joints and new concrete surfaces. During the work, drivers can expect:

  • Nighttime single and double lane closures on I-405
  • Weekend daytime lane closures on I-405
  • Nighttime and round-the-clock weekend closures of on and off ramps
  • Full 24/7 closures of U.S. 30 east to I-405 north (18 days) and U.S. 30 east to I-405 south (11 days)
  • Closures of sidewalks, lanes and parking on roads under I-405.

For the week beginning Monday, March 18, crews will close the ramp from U.S. 30 east to I-405 north nights (intermittently) 10 p.m.-5 a.m. Single lane closures could start as early as 8 p.m. Signs will direct drivers to detour routes. Use an alternate freeway when possible.
