Portland Wednesday traffic: Spring road construction kicks in – PBOT offers detailed info

Road work ahead sign

Spring is road work season in Portland.

Every year, just about with the coming of spring on the calendar, road crews sprout like daffodils across Portland’s streets and commuters bemoan delays, blocked lanes and general hassle associated with road construction. But in Oregon, agencies need to take advantage of favorable weather conditions to work on the many project slated for completion during the year.

For spring of 2019, the Portland Bureau of Transportation has a plateful of projects on the docket and some of them may be in your neighborhood. Once the cones, flagger signs and street markings go up, often commuters have detailed questions about specific projects. PBOT offers a very handy webpage with all “projects in the pipeline” listed with links to specific pages for each site. Not every page will include exact dates and times, but there are links to sign up for project e-mails and notifications as well as contact information for each project. If you’re curious about roadwork in your neighborhood, or on your commute route, check this page for updates and details.

One of the projects listed on the site to start “Spring 2019” is the Tillamook Neighborhood Greenway Enhancement project - a series of safety and design changes between Northeast Flint Street and 28th Avenue that hopes to improve an essential existing link in the city’s low-stress walking and biking network. The project plan includes:

· Marked crosswalks

· Bike box safety markers

· Signed crossings

· Speed bumps

· Median pedestrian islands

· Some parking removal

Neighbors in the Tillamook Greenway area should see construction begin once the Eliot Sewer and Stormwater Project is completed sometime in May.
