Portland metro Thursday traffic: Major road closure in Tualatin coming this weekend

Be prepared for road closures in Tualatin this weekend.

Washington County Road Department has announced the replacment of the railroad tracks west of Southwest Boones Ferry Road beginning 8 p.m. Friday, May 17. During the project, Tualatin-Sherwood Road will be closed from Southwest Boones Ferry Road to Avery Street with detours in place. The closure is all hours and days through 5 a.m. Monday, May 20. Portland and Western Railroad and contractors will be removing the tracks and pavement immediately adjacent to the tracks to install new concrete panels to support the rails.

Tualatin-Sherwood Road closure

Tualatin-Sherwood Road will be closed May 17-20 for railroad track replacement.

This area and intersection are busy and congested on the best of days and the detour is a smaller road with business access at all points. Basically, it’s going to be a mess. According to the county’s website, Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation will be adjusting traffic signal timing in the immediate vicinity of the road work to limit congestion as much as possible. Be ready for long delays getting off Interstate 5 at Nyberg Road and all along Boones Ferry on the west side of the freeway.

Drivers should expect delays, plan alternate routes or forgo the area all together this weekend.
