Portland metro Wednesday traffic: Paving work closes streets in Vancouver

Vancouver is planning some day and nighttime paving work for this week (weather dependent). Here are some areas that will have closed streets:

  • East 18th Street from Brandt to Stapleton roads is closed for continued paving work. Crews plan to wrap up Friday, Aug. 23. Work hours are 7 a.m.-8 p.m. (rain could delay construction on Wednesday). The street is closed to through traffic during paving.
  • Northeast Auto Mall Drive from Fourth Plain Boulevard to Northeast Vancouver Plaza Drive will have nighttime closures for paving. Microsurfacing is planned for 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, through 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23. The street will be closed for this work.
  • Northeast Burton Road from Fourth Plain Boulevard to Burton Road will have nighttime microsurfacing between 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, and 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23. The street will be closed for this work.
  • Northeast Vancouver Plaza Drive between Northeast Auto Mall Drive and Thurston Way will have nighttime microsurfacing from 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, through 6 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24. The street will primarily be closed during this work, with lane closures at Thurston Way.

The city asks drivers to be alert to street closures, lane changes, detours, and delays. Check message boards for schedule updates and ‘No Parking’ signs for restricted hours and dates. Schedules are subject to change due to weather and construction conditions. Striping replacement will follow where needed.

Note for Salem/Woodburn area Interstate 5 paving and road work: All paving operations on I-5 between Woodburn and Salem will be suspended from August 23 to September 3 to accommodate increased traffic for the Oregon State Fair. Night time paving and lane closures will resume on Tuesday, September 3.

WOODBURN 7:30 a.m.: Paving work is delaying traffic on I-5 southbound from Woodburn to Brooks.

Update 8:07 a.m.: ODOT reports paving is going longer than expected. Delays are likely through 9 a.m.

Remember that ramps project the Oregon Department of Transportation started last summer?

They’re still working on that. The remaining task is to deck seal the ramps. Three ramps will need to be sealed in the coming months. The I-5 northbound to I-84 eastbound ramp has already been sealed.

The ramp from I-84 westbound to I-5 southbound (green arrow on the map above) will experience full nighttime closures:

  • 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, through 5am Friday, Aug 23
  • 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, through 7am Saturday, Aug. 24
  • 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, through 8am Sunday, Aug 25
