Portland metro Wednesday traffic: All lanes open at scene of fatal crash on I-84 west

A fatal early morning crash involving a person walking along the freeway has closed all lanes of Interstate 84 westbound at Fairview. As of 6:30 a.m. drivers are being directed off the freeway at 207th Avenue and detoured to Northeast Sandy Boulevard westbound. This detour is already crowded and slow. Some drivers are using Halsey Street as an alternative. Delay your drive or take another route if possible.

Update 10:31 a.m.: All travel lanes have re-opened.

DOWNTOWN 8:58 a.m.: Crash on Southwest Oak Street at Broadway.

FAIRVIEW 8:44 a.m.: Crash reported on Northeast Seventh Avenue and Halsey Street.

BEAVERTON 7:54 a.m.: Crash on U.S. 26 westbound near Cedar Hills Boulevard has the left lane blocked.

Paving on West Burnside scheduled for Sunday got rained out. The new plan is for PBOT crews to pave the area between Northwest 18th-19th avenues beginning at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, allowing Portland Thorns fans time to leave Providence Park after the match vs. North Carolina. Paving will be completed by 6 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.

Paving and other street improvements will slow traffic on Southeast 26th Avenue rom Powell to Holgate boulevards through Sept. 20. Work hours are 7 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays and occasional weekends. Drivers should expect periodic lane closures and flaggers directing traffic.

Crews will grind and pave 1.57 lane miles of roadway.

Crews from the Oregon Department of Transportation continue to work on the ramps to Interstate 205 northbound. Drivers should expect night ramp closures, and daytime lane closures on I-205 north at Stark, Washington, Glisan and Killingsworth ramps through Saturday morning, Sept. 14.

Planned work includes periodic nighttime ramp closures at the northbound Exit 20 toward Washington and Stark streets, the northbound off-ramp to Glisan Street, the northbound ramp to I-84 west, the southbound Washington Street on-ramp, and northbound Exit 23B to Killingsworth U.S. 30 Bypass.

Travelers will also see occasional daytime single lane closures in both directions near Glisan Street and on Washington/Stark.
