Drivers will likely see some delays for nighttime road work on Interstate 5 between Salem and Woodburn for the next three weeks.

The Oregon Department of Transportation will have crews on the freeway installing permanent striping and recessed pavement markers 7 p.m.-9 a.m. Sundays through Friday and some weekends beginning Tuesday, May 26. The work is part of last year’s pavement project left over because of fall rains. The work is highly weather dependent. This week’s weather should be very conducive for striping.

Drivers should expect periodic lane closures both northbound and southbound for the next three weeks.

This work will complete the paving of the 12-mile section of I-5 between Woodburn and Salem.

The outside eastbound transit-only lane on the Burnside Bridge will be closed 5:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday, May 26 and Thursday, May 28. Crews will be doing electrical repairs to the drawbridge controls. All other traffic lanes, bike lanes and sidewalks will remain open.

During the work, the east leaf of the drawbridge will not be able to open for river traffic. River traffic will be required to use the west leaf.

Drier weather should allow crews to complete scheduled work at the intersection of Arata Road and 238th Drive near Wood Village. The work that was scheduled for last week got rained out. This week Multnomah County crews will close the intersection all hours Tuesday-Thursday, May 26-28.

During the closure the contractor will remove old asphalt, install traffic signal loop detectors, and complete final paving and lane striping.

During the closure local residents will have access to their homes but may need to take a longer route. Arata Road and 238th Drive will be open up to the intersection to allow nearby residents to come and go.

Detours for through traffic are:

  • For 238th Drive - Halsey Street and either 223rd Avenue or 257th Drive to Glisan Street or Cherry Park Road
  • For Arata Road - Wood Village Boulevard to Halsey Street or Glisan Street
