Portland stabbing victim loses her Chihuahua in random bus stop attack

A woman who was stabbed in an apparently random attack Sunday is now searching for her Chihuahua, which ran away during the attack.

Portland police said the woman was waiting for a bus around 11:30 p.m. at Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Schuyler Street when she was stabbed in the chest by a man. Police say she didn’t know the man, and the attack appeared to be random and unprovoked.

On Thursday, Portland police said the woman was in serious condition, but declined to offer any more details about her injuries or what happened during and after the attack.

Police described the suspect as about 30 years old, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, with a pudgy build and with stubble and short, dark hair. They said he was wearing a baseball cap during the attack.

During the attack, the woman’s dog, a 2-year-old Chihuahua named Damu, ran away. The dog was last seen on 82nd Avenue near the Banfield Pet Hospital. The dog is not microchipped and did not have a collar or leash.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the dog is asked to contact Portland police detectives Shaye Samora at 503-823-0416 or Jeff Sharp at 503-823-9773.
