Portland man, 20, indicted on 11 counts after double fatal hit-and-run

A Portland man is facing 11 criminal charges in a July 8 hit-and-run that killed two women.

Antonio Montgomery, 20, was indicted Thursday on two counts of first-degree manslaughter, two counts of third-degree assault, five counts of failure to perform duties of a driver and one each of recklessly endangering another and criminal trespass.

Montgomery is accused of hitting cars at two different locations on Southeast Powell Boulevard, running from the second crash and hiding in the pool of a private home about a mile away, where he was found two hours later.

The crash killed sisters Charlene Hauth and Robin Macready. Hauth, 60, died at the scene and Macready, 59, died the next day at the hospital.

According to court documents, Montgomery was driving an SUV and, near the intersection of Southeast 171st Avenue and Powell Boulevard, he crashed into another car. After that, he allegedly continued speeding down Powell, where he ran a red light at Southeast 148th Avenue and plowed into a Jeep driven by Macready.

After that, Montgomery allegedly ran from the scene and hid in backyards of homes in neighborhoods off of Powell Boulevard. The probable cause affidavit states that Montgomery entered a home on Southeast 131st Avenue, and the residents of the home found him hiding in their shower.

The document states that Montgomery offered them money in exchange for their truck, and when they declined, he continued running. Police then arrested Montgomery at a home in the 13200 block of Center Street, where the homeowners had found him hiding under the tarp of a swimming pool.

In the indictment, Montgomery is charged with injuring two other people, and damaging at least two other cars.
