Rondre Wells, 24, is charged with attempted murder with a firearm, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm. According to court documents, in the early hours of Aug. 9, police responded to the Glass House Tavern in the 9700 block of Northeast Sandy Boulevard for reports of a shooting. Police found evidence of gunfire, but the shooting victim had already gone to the hospital in a private vehicle and was taken to a trauma center with serious injuries.

Police arrested Wells in Ada County, Idaho, and extradited him to Portland on Wednesday.

After looking at surveillance footage from the bar, a Portland police officer identified Wells from his previous encounters with law enforcement. The officer said the video showed Wells getting into a quick fight with the victim at the back of the bar. The officer said that on video, he saw that both Wells and the victim had handguns, and Wells shot at the victim right outside the bar’s front door, then drove away.

Police interviewed the victim at the hospital, and he said he did not know Wells, but that Wells came up to him, started arguing with him and then shot him in the chest. The victim said he had a gun but didn’t point it at Wells.

According to court documents, police recovered multiple firearms during the investigation.
