Update: Suspect arrested in Salem homicide where human remains were found under duplex
Human remains found earlier this month in Salem were confirmed as Josiah Bagnall, 18, of Salem on Friday.
Bagnall’s death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy. Detectives are still investigating.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said a sketch of the victim’s tattoo released to the public led to a surge of tips from the community and resulted in the positive identification of Bagnall.
A family living in a northeast Salem duplex reported a “foul odor,” on June 10 according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were dispatched to the 3600 block of 47th Avenue, where they found Bagnall’s remains beneath the home.
Bagnall is believed to have been dead for “several weeks,” when he was found by investigators.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing any further information at this time, and people with information are being asked to contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Note: this story has been updated to correct Bagnall’s age after inaccurate information from law enforcement.
