The Frying Scotsman is taking its authentic fish and chips to Beaverton

The Frying Scotsman, a Portland fish and chip cart from Scotland native James King, will pack up its fryers and move to Beaverton after nearly a decade downtown.

Alongside thick-cut fries and golden cod or haddock -- considered by some to be Portland's best fish and chips -- King offers Scottish staples such as deep-fried Mars bars and the bright orange soda Irn Bru (Scotland's other national drink).

The Frying Scotsman follows Nong's Khao Man Gai and 808 Grinds in leaving what was until recently Portland's signature 10th and Alder food cart pod. The pod itself is closing soon to make way for a 33-story office building and boutique hotel.

The cart will land at BG Food Cartel, the expansive -- and surprisingly clean -- new food cart pod in central Beaverton. Here's what King wrote about the move on Facebook:

"It's official. After almost a decade downtown, I have decided to move to a new, more secure location. Saturday, September 29 will be my last day operating in my current spot, and the following week I will be reopening in the Beaverton Food Cart Pod at 4250 SW Rose Biggi Ave, Beaverton. I know this is great news for some, upsetting for others, but I hope you'll visit and join me in my excitement for this new chapter of The Frying Scotsman. I have loved being downtown and I really, really have loved serving all of you. Stay tuned for more details..."

Visit The Frying Scotsman at its longtime downtown Portland home near Southwest 10th Avenue and Alder Street through Sept. 29.
